PCIC Member Companies Can Apply for PADEP Natural Gas Vehicle Grants The Department of Environmental Protection announced this week that its Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant (AFIG) Natural Gas Vehicle program is now open. The program will provide an estimated $10 million in grants to help companies and organizations purchase or convert medium to light-weight natural gas vehicles. Learn how PCIC memebr companies can apply. Senate Forms Manufacturing Caucus The bipartisan Pennsylvania Senate Manufacturing Caucus, chaired by Sen. Kim Ward (R-39) and Sen. Wayne Fontana (D-42), held its first meeting last week and issued a press release saying its goal is to “discuss ideas for boosting growth in this vital sector of the economy.” Learn more about the Caucus here. PADEP Adds Online Permit Tool, Reports Process Improvements DEP also announced a new permit pre-application information tool that allows potential applicants to quickly determine which permits and authorizations may be needed for a project.This is a response of the executive order from Governor Corbett tasking DEP with implementing Permit Decision Guarantee. Groundbreaking for Philadelphia Naval Yard’s Energy Innovation Hub An Energy Efficient Buildings Hub, an initiative of the Corbett adminstration for the economic development of Philadelphia and Southeastern PA, was established two years ago through a federal Department of Energy grant. The groundbreaking ceremony was held last week for two buildings that will serve as the Hub’s headquarters and “living laboratory.” Learn more about the Hub and what it will do for the Philadelphia area. L&I Building Code Council sets May meeting The Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council will meet on Wednesday, May 29. The group has been the focus of attention for advocates of updating statewide building codes including PCIC member companies who support updates related to energy efficiency. New PCIC representative named to Storage Tank Advisory Committee DEP Secretary Michael Krancer has appointed Scott Nowicki of TTI Environmental, Inc. to the Storage Tank Advisory Committee. PUC & Homeland Security agencies to host Cyber Security Session The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PA PUC), the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have announced a free, half-day workshop for executive and senior level security personnel. Click here for more details on the workshop. 2013 Environmental Excellence Award winners announced Governor Tom Corbett recently announced the 19 organizations who will recieve the 2013 Environmental Excellence Award. DEP provides update on new permit review program The Department of Environmental Protection has released the results of the first of four quarterly reports detailing progress under the new Permit Review Process and Permit Decision Guarantee policy. Governor, senators write on natural gas export Governor Corbett and a bipartisan group of PA State Senators have written to U.S. Energy Secretary Chu and President Obama respectively, urging them to move forward with the approval process for LNG exports. Pittsburgh event showcases new energy economy; PCIC participates Governor Tom Corbett joined US Senators Pat Toomey (PA) and Joe Manchin (WV) in headlining a regional energy conference in Pittsburgh. The conference brought together business representatives from the Marcellus Shale industry, chemical industry, utility companies, and other energy interests to discuss building a new energy economy. Company news: governor touts Albemarle expansion Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Corbett has announced that Albemarle Corporation, a specialty chemical manufacturer, will expand its operations and create 20 new jobs in Blair County. Governor’s School for Sciences seeks applicants, sponsors The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences (PGSS) is now accepting applications from high school juniors for the summer 2013 program. PGSS is a five-week summer residential program, which emphasizes cooperative learning and hands-on laboratory research, for 56 talented high school students of science and mathematics.
